Mona Vale Commodores Netball Club announced Joan Evans as the Club Patron in 2019. She had previously been Club President for 35 years.
Joan Evans is a Life Member of Manly Warringah Netball Association (MWNA) and has been with MWNA since the 1970’s when she joined Mona Vale Commodores Netball Club just a couple of years after it was founded. She originally enlisted as a coach of a Commodores club team and coached junior teams aged 13, 14 and 15 Years as well senior teams graded in AR3, AR1 and A grade teams and had great success.
Joan coached a group of players from Juniors all the way into their Senior years continuing to coach them for 10 years in Senior divisions. This group of “girls” are now mums themselves with daughters playing for different clubs in the MWNA winter competition. Some of the players Joan coached became MWNA representative players, managers and coaches and club coaches of their daughters’ teams.
During her active time at the club Joan had many roles over a very long period, including President for 35 years (1985 – 2019), club grader and selector from 1981 until 2009 (excluding 2006) and Umpires Convener from 2002 until 2006 . .
In addition to her work for Mona Vale Commodores she has been intrinsically involved with MWNA as an administrator over the years. Serving on the Grading Committee for twelve years since 2000 and as a convener of MWNA Grading Committee from 2014, to 2019. Joan has diligently attended to the duties of the grading committee spending countless hours doing the “homework” required to ensure the teams are graded as fairly as possible.
Joan also served as the MWNA Junior representative selector twice from 2000-2006 and then from 2008-2010. This position allowed her indulge her passion for representative Netball. She enjoyed watching players skills develop as they trained and competed at carnivals and State Age Championships each year.
